Sean R. Hanover, Esquire

Principal Attorney

Attorney Hanover has been associated with law since graduating with double Master Degrees in Human Resources (employment law) and Industrial Relations (union law) from St. Francis University in 1996.

He obtained his juris doctorate from the University of the District of Columbia in 2008 and maintains a vibrant practice focusing on immigration, family law, criminal defense, and business law.

Through his work in the asylum arena, Mr. Hanover has become accomplished at defending gang members and individuals convicted of drug offenses, and other serious crimes, in immigration court. He has expanded the criminal defense aspect of Hanover Law to include Felony 1, Felony 2, and capital cases.

Hanover’s experience in family law covers custody and divorce proceedings in DC Superior Court, and Federal Court. He has specialized experience in high value estates, and sensitive neglect, protective orders, and abuse custody cases.

In addition to his law practice, Mr. Hanover owns HHC, an IT consulting company based in Fairfax, VA. HHC specializes in Drupal development, a form of open-source PHP/MySQL CMS. His experience as an IT Business owner provides excellent insight for his small to medium size business legal clients working in commercial, non-profit and government sectors.

Contributing to the legal community is important to Mr. Hanover. He is an active author in the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) with publications ranging from foreign military spouses to paralegal course books. He maintains a blog at www.hanoverlawpc.com.

Charlet Herr, CPC

Practice Manager

Charlet is the administrative manager of Hanover Law, working in both our Fairfax office and our office in DC. She brings a wealth of experience in practice management from her over 20 years of office management in the medical field. Her understanding of client issues, ability to relate closely to the challenges experienced by distraught family members, and her excellent managerial skills, contribute significantly to the well running of the firm.

Ms. Herr is also responsible for client relations, often conducting initial interviews and providing advanced paralegal services on behalf of the attorney working at the firm. She is currently working towards BIA certification to represent immigration clients before the immigration court and appeals tribunals.

Ms. Herr completed school in Texas before moving to Virginia for more advanced medical and administrative management training. Her Certified Professional Coder (accounting certification) designates her as a professional, diligent officer with uncompromising business integrity.

Our practice manager is at the forefront of expanding our firm’s capabilities. We are planning to open a real estate practice where her recent successful completion of real estate training and classes will make her a leader in this area.

Micheal Troy, Esquire
 Of Council          

Michael has been practicing in the District of Columbia and Maryland for over 20 years. Michael holds a Juris Doctor cum laude from the American University Washington College of Law (1997), where he served as an Articles Editor on the Editorial Board of The American University Law Review.

He was a Dean’s Fellow for Associate Dean and Professor Jamin Raskin, a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Charles R. Richey in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, a Legal Intern for the United States Attorney’s Office of the District of Columbia, as well as a Legal Intern for the District of Columbia Office of Corporation Counsel. Michael also earned his LL.M. in Securities and Financial Regulation from the Georgetown University Law Center in 2001, where he wrote his Master’s Thesis on insider trading.

After graduating law school, Michael served as law clerk to the Honorable Judge John H. Bayly of the District of Columbia Superior Court from 1997-1998, who was hearing criminal matters. After clerking for Judge Bayly and while earning his LL.M. at Georgetown, Michael served as an Attorney-Advisor in the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of Administrative Law Judges from 1998-2000. Michael is admitted to appear before all state courts in Maryland and in the District of Columbia.

Paola Rodriguez, Esquire
Associate Attorney          

Attorney Paola Rodriguez has been an active member of the Maryland State Bar since June 2013. Her primary areas of practice are immigration, criminal and family law.
She obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University of the District of Columbia in 2011. In 2008, she obtained her Bachelors of Business Administration from The George Washington University. She is also fluent in Spanish.

Attorney Rodriguez has appeared in front of the Baltimore and Arlington Immigration Courts representing numerous individuals facing deportation charges. Many of her clients include minors as well as recently detained individuals. She also represents clients who are seeking to gain or adjust status through various forms of relief including but not limited to Asylum, CAT/Withholding, Petition for Alien Relatives, U-visas and Special Immigrant Juvenile.
Attorney Rodriguez is a skilled negotiator who works closely with clients to resolve employment, contract and personal injury disputes where settlement is appropriate.

 

Christian Fernandez, Esquire
Associate Attorney          

Originally from Titusville, New Jersey (think Princeton, then look west), attorney Fernandez obtained his juris doctorate from American University, Washington College of Law.  He also holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Rutgers University and an associate’s degree in business administration from Bucks County Community College.

Prior to joining Hanover Law, Mr. Fernandez owned and operated a small law firm out of Arlington, Virginia where he was the head of the transactional division of the firm.  In this capacity, Mr. Fernandez regularly negotiated, drafted, and implemented agreements for a variety of corporate entities and oversaw all client matters concerning internal corporate transactions.
Mr. Fernandez has experience structuring, forming, managing, merging, acquiring, and dissolving corporations ranging from establishing small brick and mortar businesses to mergers worth millions of dollars.
Mr. Fernandez also has extensive experience advising on and creating complex estate planning structures.  Through the proper use of the various estate planning tools, that is wills, powers of attorney, and the various flavors of trusts, Mr. Fernandez has been able to help his clients secure the results of their hard work for generations to come.

At Hanover Law, Mr. Fernandez brings his transactional knowledge to bear in his litigation practice.  He seeks to use his years of experience in negotiations to help clients resolve their matters as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.
Current practice areas include family law (divorce, custody, and child support); criminal defense (misdemeanor and felony); and employment law (discrimination and retaliation claims before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission).

Fjorela Shati, J.D & L.L.M
Case Manager          

Fjorela Shati joined Hanover Law as a case Manager, where she provides support in the litigation department.
Moved to the United States to continue her studies in American Law and obtained her LLM from Vermont Law School.
She also holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Milan – Bicocca in Italy. After graduation, she worked as a junior associate in different Law Firms in Milan and New York City where she assisted on matters related to corporate transactions, mergers, and acquisitions, work on claims involving employment discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, wage and hours issues.
Fjorela Shati has a vast experience in international law; She wrote her thesis on How the rules of International Law apply to asylum-seeking refugees crossing the Mediterranean Sea and she has done several pieces of training with the Organization of United Nations in France, Sweden, and Italy.

Her proficiency in five languages: English, Italian, Spanish, Albanian and French has been a bridge of connections in her international career. Her multicultural background will help to deal with clients of different nationalities and assist them with their business, employment, family, and immigration matters.
